Come explore
My Father's World
with us!

MFW Explorers is a local homeschool group in Wichita, KS.  We have designed this website to be useful for everyone, but most importantly to help those who are using the "My Father's World" Curriculum.  Please let us know how we can better serve you.

Charlotte Mason's School Motto:
I am
...created in Christ Jesus, a child of God.
I can...do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
I ought...to do what is right.
I will...do my best.
When children say, "I can't do this!" Remind them of this motto.  Make a poster of this motto to display in your classroom.  Have them memorize it, go over what it means. At the PTR, you can cut out letters for your poster and use stickers or cutouts to decorate it. Or, you can make one on Word for a smaller display.

The public is invited to see the release of "Freedom," a juvenile bald eagle, Feb. 13 on the banks of the Arkansas River outside Exploration Place.
A video called "American Eagle," which chronicles the lives of two families of bald eagles, will be shown inside Exploration Place at 2 p.m. The bird will be released at 3:30 p.m.
Freedom was found in December 2009 with a gunshot wound to the wing.
Eagle Valley Raptor Center has been overseeing its care and recovery since.
The release will be done in honor of Sedgwick County sheriff's Deputy Brian Etheridge, who lost his life in the line of duty Sept. 28, 2009.

Numana:
Feed the Hungry!
Wichita State University February 5, 6, and 7, 2010
Come help WSU and Numana feed the starving in Haiti! The response of SE Kansas to the need to get food to the people of Haiti since the earthquake has been astounding. We have packaged and airlifted over 2,000,000 meals. Come be a part of helping us make that 3,000,000. February 5-7, WSU will be staging a 1 MILLION meal food packaging event at the Hughes Metroplex.  This is a great family opportunity to serve.  We went as a family.  Everyone was able to help the Haiti people.

Do you have books, that are in good condition, that you would like to get rid of?
There is a website called: Paperback Swap that allows you to trade in a book that you don't want and get one that you do.  It is very easy to do.  Click on the link and it will explain how it works.  Kelley and I have gotten valuable book basket books this way.

I found a website that you'll all be interested in called
Apples4theteacher
In the future, you'll be able to find it under the Free Downloads tab.  I was looking for a Presidential Lapbook.  Instead of purchasing one, I am going to print off different activity pages, coloring pages and lapbook pages which are located on the X-1850 and 1850-Modern Tab.  Also, I was looking at the website called http://www.homeschoolhelperonline.com/notebooking.htm.  They have new and free notebook pages that go along well with the 5 yr. cycle.  They have posted new Story of the World Middle ages notebook pages for each chapter of the book as well as CTG pages.  Check it out!

Karen Andreola has a new book out!
It is called, "Lessons at Blackberry Inn."
Adventures with the gentle art of learning!
Check out her website called,

Oklahoma Homeschool Website has great unit studies.  Many go along with MFW topics.  There is a unit study combining Apologia Physical Science with younger students.
Check out the Free Downloads tab for more info.

Changes at the Wichita Public Library!

~The Library is planning on charging people
$1.00 per item, everytime you do not pick up your "On Hold"
item on time (within 7 days).  There is a comment form that can be filled out.  I suggest we all let them know how we feel about this.  In the past, if you didn't pick up your item during a certain amount of time, it would be reshelved and you would lose that item.  Overdue fines are only $.025 per item!

On a positive note: we learned alot about how to work the on-line website.  Ask your Librarian to show you.

They also have a new item called, "Play Aways."  A "Play Away" is one audiobook on a portable mp3 player that you can check out like a book.  You provide your own earphones and one AAA battery.

------------------------------

"You can catch more flies with honey, than you can with vinegar!"
This means that it is easier to persuade people if you use polite arguments and flattery than if you are confrontational.  That is the Google definition.
I am persuaded that we need to teach with honey on our lips.  In 2 Timothy 2:24, it says, "And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient..."  We can reach our students better with a kind word, encouragement and praise for the things that they do correctly.  We can always find something to give credit for.  Andrew Pudewa, author of 'Excellence in Writing', says to offer 10 praises before one critique. If we criticize often, we will lose our audience.  Worse than that, we could lose their love and respect and possibly damage our relationship with our loved ones.  I want to encourage you to be as sweet as honey.  We need to ask daily for God's help.  His Word, the Bible will help us!

About us/Contact us

Our Mission:
To encourage and support each other in what God has called us to: homeschooling our children so that the next generation may know the truth found only in Jesus.

About us:
MFW Explorers started about 5 years ago. The group is open to all families using My Father's World curriculum. We have found that the group meets a tremendous ministry need for Homeschooling Moms and an opportunity to share struggles and accomplishments with like-minded Moms. This is why we desire to give time for fellowship and sharing at the Mom's Meetings.

We also want to give the opportunity for the kids to get together for fun times of learning with field trips, group activities, service projects, and fundraisers. If you have any questions about the group just contact us at
mfwexplorers@cox.net
We'd love to hear from you.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
                                Colossians 3:16-17
